Our aim at Street Forge is to give the people who use our services, choices in what they do and experience with their time here. We have two standard outings yearly, the first a summer BBQ and the second our annual Christmas Lunch in December. We endeavour to hold the BBQ on a different day each year so that each trainee gets the chance to take part. We like to vary what food we offer and source them locally if we can; trainees have experienced fish, field mushrooms with goat’s cheese and grilled fruit kebabs. We also offer tasty salads to complement the dishes and dressings to widen the usual flavours that perhaps they may not have had available before. Street Forge is committed to promoting healthy eating so we shop very carefully for ingredients. The Christmas Lunch is held off site usually at a local hotel which has good facilities; everyone is invited plus their families. Staff have put on entertainment in the past or we have engaged outside entertainment to round the day off.

The first week in June is National Volunteer Week, this year Street Forge celebrated this on June 2nd  by putting on a Caribbean Lunch and inviting the Volunteers to attend to thank them for the time and energy that they devote to us on a regular basis. Staff cooked up Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas, Salt Fish and with fresh Pineapple for desert. Staff sought the help and advice of Richard Rollins who attends on Monday& Friday. Richard came to England from the Caribbean; his input was valuable giving advice on the traditional Caribbean way of cooking. Those that were able to attend enjoyed the occasion and the new taste as did the trainees that attend on that day.

Each year we try to give the opportunity of a day out to the trainees. This year, two one day trips on the Waveney Stardust, broads cruiser, have been booked for July. Trainees will experience a boat trip on the River Wensum, stopping at the Ferry House at Surlingham for a pub lunch. Logistically the organisation for day trips can be problematic but staff go on fact finding trips to the chosen destination to do risk assessments and to spot potential problems long before the trips.
