Independent Living
Street Forge Workshops strives to promote healthy eating where ever possible, but with a light touch. Our aim is for our students to learn and have some fun at the same time.
The kitchen is organised and run by a member of staff and volunteers, who choose menus between them, and then shop for the ingredients.
A team of trainees led by two volunteers get together to cook lunch on the first Friday of every month, together with the all important washing up!
These Friday lunches are very popular, in fact so many trainees and staff eat in that it becomes very cosy. The menus vary, from pasta dishes to sausage and mash, curries to hotpot. We always provide a meat dish, a vegetarian option, and also cater for those who have special dietary needs.
When there is a need, or an interest, we run courses to meet individual needs in cooking, healthy eating, or independent living.
We are always working towards improving facilities in the kitchen to make it more suitable for those who access it in wheelchairs.
