Horticulture
Street Forge Workshops has a thriving horticulture group based in Stowmarket, with an excellent track record of providing horticulture training and therapy to a diverse range of students.
We run both nationally recognised horticulture training courses as well as courses for
Emphasis is put on team work, involvement, an awareness of each others needs and a commitment to develop a project with something to offer all who attend. We have two dedicated staff and one volunteer with typically six to eight students.
The current site is about one third of an acre which is well managed having been transformed from a neglected wilderness into a productive fruit and vegetable plot, lawns and flower gardens. We have a large, well equipped and heated greenhouse with warm propagators and a wide selection of plants. There is a modern, full size fruit cage where students can care for a variety of fruit and vegetable crops.
Students are involved in a wide range of activities including propagation, digging, weeding, watering, planting, pruning and mowing. They also may take home produce as well as their new found skills and extended confidence. In some cases they will start to grow their own produce at home.
